Telegram user ID guides

Your Telegram user ID is a numeric identifier for your account. It is stable, assigned once, and not shown anywhere in the Telegram app. Bots and integrations can read it only when you interact with them — for example, when you open a bot and tap Start, or send a message. This hub collects guides to help you find, copy, and understand your user ID safely.

You cannot get someone else’s ID by phone number or username alone. Services that promise “ID lookup by phone” are often scams or privacy-violating. IDs are obtained only through interaction: when a user opens a bot, forwards a message (if they allow it), or participates in a chat you can access.

FAQ

Is my Telegram ID private?

Your Telegram ID is not publicly shown in the Telegram UI, but bots and apps can read it when you interact with them. You control who gets it by choosing which bots and apps you use.

Can I get someone else’s ID by phone number or username?

No. You cannot reliably get a Telegram user ID from a phone number or username alone. IDs are obtained only when the user interacts with a bot or app, or forwards a message (and allows forwarding). Avoid services that claim otherwise.

What is the difference between user ID and chat_id?

User ID identifies a Telegram account. chat_id identifies a conversation (private chat, group, supergroup, channel). In a private chat, user ID and chat_id are the same number.
