Bot not responding in a Telegram group: checklist

@print_id_bot responds in groups only when you trigger it correctly. If it stays silent, use this checklist.

1. Check the trigger

The bot responds only when you:

If you send a normal message without replying, using /id, or mentioning the bot, it will not reply. This is by design to avoid spam.

2. Verify the bot is in the group

Make sure @print_id_bot was added to the group. When added, it sends a welcome message. If you do not see that, add it again: open @print_id_bot, tap Start, then add it to the group.

3. Bot permissions

The bot needs to read messages to respond. If your group uses “Restrict members” or similar, ensure the bot can read messages. For @print_id_bot, no special admin rights are required beyond being a member.

4. Privacy mode (for custom bots)

If you use a different bot with privacy mode enabled, it may not see all messages. @print_id_bot is configured to work in groups when triggered. If you built your own bot, check BotFather → Bot Settings → Group Privacy.

5. Try in private chat

Open @print_id_bot in private chat and send /id. If it works there but not in the group, the issue is likely the trigger or permissions in the group.

Quick test

  1. Add @print_id_bot to the group (if not already).
  2. Send: @print_id_bot or /id
  3. The bot should reply with the group name and chat_id.

Yes. Same triggers apply: reply, /id, /help, or @print_id_bot.
